Provide First Aid

HLTAID011 Provide First Aid (replace old unit HLTAID003 Provide first aid) is a unit that provides the skills and knowledge for students to perform a first aid response to casualties. This is an essential basic medical training applicable to all kinds of workplaces and workers, to prepare against certain unforeseen medical circumstances.

This unit entails a range of activities such as identifying and assessing a medical emergency, followed by responding calmly and managing the situation. It also teaches students the legal responsibilities of a first aider. Knowledge of first aid increases the sense of safety and well-being in students as well as potentially reduces the risk of irresponsible behaviour and common avoidable incidents.

The unit applies to workers who may be required to provide, coordinate, and manage a first aid response across a range of complex situations in community and workplace settings.
